There is a greenwinged macaw flying loose in County Durham. I know, because he flew off from my sanctuary.... but it wasnt our fault!! Six-year-old Rufus stayed with us while his owner was on holiday. He was a joy to look after (albeit a little noisy at times). His owners returned from their holidays, loaded the cage into their van..... and then walked to the van with the parrot on the wife's shoulder. Rufus did what any bird would do in those circumstances. He took to the skies. The owners were amazed - he had never done that before...... He spent a couple of rain-soaked days 50 foot up in an ash tree, during which time the fire brigade came to look at him, and then he disappeared. The owners have been here every day since he flew off - and today spent a total of 5 minutes looking for him. They dont seem terribly bothered. People amaze me sometimes.
